Leamington
Spa Amateur Swimming Club provides tuition through its teaching groups
to children from 5 years wishing to learn to swim or improve their swimming
technique. Swimming development is centred on good technique and confidence
in the water with progression through the structured ability groups.
Those children who want to swim competitively are invited to join the
competitive swimming squads. Swimmers from Leamington Spa represent their
club in the Nuneaton and District Junior League, Mercian League and West
Midlands Speedo League as well as trophy galas. Individual swimmers are
also encouraged to enter open galas. Several swimmers have attained a
high level of success in their performance at County, District and National
level.
Teaching and training is carried out by trained volunteers with the exception
of the chief coach who is salaried.
The Club is managed by a Committee, which is elected annually. In addition
there are five trustees, they are long serving members (20 years + in
all cases), who still help the Club, mainly they are there to offer advice,
they have no management powers. The day to day work is carried out by
a mixture of people, some are committee members, many aren’t. More
help is always wanted, for example it takes well over 20 people to run
a gala. Some of the work requires training and we are fortunate that the
Club has members who can provide some of this at nominal cost. For the
rest, the Club arranges courses, or suggests courses which people could
participate in and often helps with the costs.
